Essential Oils for Toenail Fungus

Toenail fungal infections are one of the most common infections that plague humans today. If the infection is not dealt with properly it can quickly spread and affect all of your toes.

Most people consider nail fungal infections as harmless but they can lead to the following:

  • Lower self esteem
  • Missing out on events and activities like pools and spas
  • Depression
  • Pain and swelling in toes and feet
  • Aversion to wearing open-toed shoes
  • Severe itching and cracked skin

Luckily, with dietary changes, supplements, and specific essential oils, you can eliminate the root cause of the nail fungi.

What this article is going to do is show you the exact steps to take on how to get rid of toenail fungus quickly and for good.

After suffering with toenail fungus for 2+ years, going to doctors and podiatrists, my mom had enough and decided to make a change. She actually got toenail fungus from sharing a shower with my dad, who had toenail fungus as well.

She decided she wanted to try an all-natural treatment for her infection on her toes. A combination of essential oils, supplementation, and diet was used to get rid of her fungi for good.

Below are some of the exact oils and supplements used for successfully treating her fungus.

Benefits of Essential Oils?

Essential oils have been used for centuries but just now are beginning to be rediscovered by health and cosmetic professionals. We see them in anything from soaps, shampoos, face washes, lotions, and more.

The reason why we see such a surge in the use of essential oils is that they yield a tremendous amount of benefits. Some of these include:

  • Cheaper than some conventional treatments
  • No chemical additives
  • Relaxes your body and soothe sore muscles
  • Alleviate pain
  • Balance hormones and improve digestion
  • Heal skin conditions

This is just some of the many uses of essential oils in the human body. They can provide a solution if you feel like you have tried everything.

Oregano Oil and Tea Tree Oil

The first oil you will want to try is oregano oil which contains carvacrol. Carvacrol is very effective against candida and candida albicans. Oregano oil benefits are actually superior to prescription antibiotics, due to its powerful anti fungal properties.

Oregano oil can actually kill mold and other forms of candida within your system.

If you try oregano oil you will want to use it with another essential oil called tea tree oil (melaleuca). Tea tree oil has amazing benefits that will blow you away. It is an natural anti fungal agent which can penetrate your nails and get rid of that stubborn fungus for good.

Use these two oils in unison on your nails daily. You will want to apply 3 drops of the oil of oregano and two drops of the tea tree oil directly onto the affected nails. Ideally, you will apply these oils onto your nails 4 times a day.

The key to getting rid of fungus under your toenails is consistency. You have to be religious with the essential oils (or any treatment for that matter) if you want to see results. Being consistent allows no opportunity for the fungus to grow.

Believe me, my mom had toe fungus for more than two years and she used this exact method to clear up her fungus without it returning. The oregano oil cleared up the tons of candida she had and toe fungus within a few months. The oregano oil she used was from a brand called Zane Hellas.

These oils can easily be picked up online. When it comes to tea tree oil, you will want to look for Australian tea tree oil. When it comes to oregano oil, you will want to make sure it has the two main active ingredients carvacrol and thymol.

Cinnamon Essential Oil

Cinnamon essential oil is a less mainstream essential oil for fighting off nail fungus. Cinnamon essential oil is derived from cinnamon bark.

This oil is extremely potent and can eliminate fungus quickly because it contains eugenol. Eugenol is commonly used as an antiseptic, anti-inflammatory  and within cosmetic products. This compound kills fungus and prevents further growth of it.

Like tea tree oil and oregano oil, it does a good job a penetrating the toenail and getting rid of the underlying fungus. It is recommended to use it the same way as the tea tree oil and oregano oil. Just apply it directly to the nail daily. You will want to apply it to the affected nails 4 times a day.

Be careful with cinnamon essential oil because it contains eugenol and some people are allergic to it. If you are, it is recommended to find an alternative essential oil for your ailments.

When buying cinnamon oil you will want to check the purity and quality of the oil. You will also want to check the amount of active ingredients as well. Be sure it contains eugenol.

Diet and Nail Fungus

The body is all interconnected which means if one part of your body is straining itself, it affects all the other parts as well. One major component to eradicating fungus on your toenails that is often overlooked by medical experts is addressing your diet.

This is one of the best natural ways to treat your toenail fungus and other fungal infections. A holistic approach that promotes the healthy growth of nails while also eliminating candida and fungus within the body.

Dietary Guidelines for Reducing Yeast Overgrowth

1. Cutting out the sugars that supply the yeast and candida.

2. Implement healthy foods and supplements that assist in replacing good bacteria in the gut.

3. Introduce more fiber, healthy sources of proteins, and good fats into your diet.

I actually am writing a more in-depth guide for an anti-fungal diet which will be easy to incorporate into any diet.

Essential oils are not the only way you can treat your foot fungus. Other ways to get results would be following a holistic regiment, and other natural products. I chronicle my personal story with toe fungus on my blog which shows some products I tried and tested.
